Embark on a March Break Adventure in Downtown Halifax!
From Monday, March 10 to Saturday, March 15, enjoy FREE ferry rides on the Alderney/Halifax ferry between 11 am and 2 pm.
All ages are welcome to hop on board and take in the stunning views of Downtown Halifax, at no cost!

MARCH BREAK ACTIVITIES
HERE ARE 25 KID-APPROVED ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH YOUR FAMILY THIS MARCH BREAK:
- Take a ferry ride across the harbour (and back!). PSST! It's free between 11 am - 2 pm from March 10 - 15.
- Check out the winter-themed lights and decorations in Peace and Friendship Park, including the dazzling 28-foot-tall tree (35-feet with the base). This light installation is part of DHBC's DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN winter lighting program on display until the end of March.
- See "Dinosaur Explorer", the new exhibit at the Discovery Centre. PRO-TIP: Book your tickets ahead of time here.
- Climb to the top of "Rise Again" at Queen's Marque on the Halifax Waterfront, OR take the steps down to the harbour and dip your toes in the cold water. And then reward yourself with a sweet treat from COWS or Peace by Chocolate.
- Visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm daily over March Break (open to 8 pm on Tuesdays). PRO-TIP: Kids 5 and under are FREE!
- Explore the grounds at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site or book a family tour and learn how soldiers survived the cold winters back in the 19th century. PRO-TIP: The grounds of the Halifax Citadel are FREE to explore all year round AND it's dog-friendly!
- Enjoy "March Break at the Museum" at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, open from March 8 - 16 with FREE admission. PRO-TIP: Sign up for a cooking workshop, taking place from March 10 - 14 at 11 am & 2 pm.
- Dine out at a kid-friendly restaurant (see below for suggestions).
- Grab a hot chocolate from one of the many local cafés - try a new one everyday!
- Climb Citadel Hill and take a selfie with the Halifax Town Clock.
- Stroll the Halifax Harbourwalk, a 4.4 km walk along the harbourfront - make sure you check out the local artwork!
- Visit the Submarine Playground on the waterfront and take a selfie with the Wave.
- Step into brewing history with a tour of the Alexander Keith's Brewery. PRO-TIP: Kids 10 and under are FREE.
- Fill up on candy at one of Downtown Halifax's specialty sweet shops like Freak Lunchbox or Flynn's Dairy Bar & Convenience.
- Take a Self-Guided Art Tour of Downtown Halifax.
- Take a tufting workshop at YOLO Crafts on Barrington Street and take your creation home with you! Great for kids 12 and older.
- Play some board games at the Board Room Game Café (and then buy your favourite before you leave).
- Visit the Train Station Playground in Peace and Friendship Park by the Halifax Train Station.
- Try your luck at Captured Escape Rooms, a great experience for a family with older children (10 years or older).
- Experience a new dining experience and grill your own dinner at Gangnam Korean BBQ on Barrington Street.
- Wander through the shops at the Historic Properties and pick up a local souvenir at shops like Carrefour Atlantic Emporium, Wild Things or POSH!.
- Pop in to Strange Adventures Comics & Curiosities and browse their selection of comic books.
- Book a staycation at a Downtown hotel with a pool (see below for suggestions).
- Have breakfast for lunch every day of the week at Elle's Bistro on Barrington Street.
- Immerse yourself in art at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia with fun activities like "Make Day! Play with Clay" on March 9, Self-Guided BINGO on March 10, Sketching in the Gallery on March 14, and more!
