Downtown Halifax Business Commission’s (DHBC) DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN at Grafton Park has launched a new holiday light show on the façade of the former Halifax Memorial Library at Grafton Park. ‘Everything is Sparkling’ is a three-minute whimsical animation that includes music from local singer-songwriter Meaghan Smith, and it can be seen at sunset every night until December 26.
“We wanted to give people something extra special while they’re out enjoying Downtown this holiday season,” says Paul MacKinnon, CEO at DHBC. “The middle of November is usually when you see the lights and decorations go up as people start to get into the holiday spirit. This year’s light show is guaranteed to add to that festive ambience.”
‘Everything is Sparkling,’ is part of DHBC’s DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN at Grafton Park and it tells the story of a “Sparkle” who takes us on a journey to Santa’s workshop. The animation was created by multimedia artist Nick Iwaskow of Wasko AV, and the background music is an original, from local songstress Meaghan Smith.
“We love it when we can include local talent in anything we do,” says Jonathan Goldson, DHBC’s Placemaking Manager. “A lot goes into the planning of our light shows, we engage with many partners, and the result is always magical.”
The new holiday light show is on now and will run until December 26, from sunset – 11 p.m. each night.
DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN is a placemaking program started by DHBC, to add more brightness to Downtown Halifax during the darker months. The program includes light installations at several parks throughout Downtown, but the flagship is the series of light projection shows on the former Halifax Memorial Library building at Grafton Park.
