Meet Shannon Harding, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia (JA Nova Scotia).
Shannon’s entire career has been dedicated to education. She loves seeing people realize their potential and providing them with the necessary tools and empowerment to succeed. Inspired by her favourite educators, she spent 7+ years teaching middle school and high school before moving her family to Nova Scotia in 2016. Shannon, her husband and three daughters built their home from the ground up in Fall River while she worked in an education-adjacent position for the Clean Foundation. There she spent seven years implementing education initiatives across Atlantic Canada before joining the Junior Achievement team in September 2023.
JA Nova Scotia is part of a global non-profit community committed to empowering youth in their future success. They offer FREE programming to youth ages 5-25 that set them up for real-world scenarios and experiences. Programs can be recommended by a teacher, community member, or youth can self-direct online at www.janovascotia.ca, where details on all programs can be found. In an effort to reduce barriers and better serve the community, their Company Program has eliminated the cost of participation. JA Nova Scotia continues to work on engaging all communities throughout Nova Scotia.
JA Nova Scotia recruits and relies on volunteers to collaborate on programs, which focus on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and workplace readiness skills. They are always looking for volunteers to sign up for speaking opportunities, to jury projects, classroom programming, or become an advisor for a Company Program. As a volunteer, you will be provided with the necessary training and materials. From high school students to CEOs, entrepreneurs to retirees, all have unique ways in which they can contribute.
Other ways to get involved include attending or supporting their annual fundraising event, making a donation, or simply sharing information about their programs. Please reach out to info@janovascotia.ca with inquires and visit them online to learn more!
