Downtown Halifax's Street Navigator, Lucas Goltz, is offering shorter, practical training that fits into a busy workday. He created S.A.F.E.R. with that in mind — a focused, two-hour crisis-response and verbal de-escalation framework for people who regularly face difficult situations, but weren’t hired or trained to be crisis workers.
S ee the situation.
A ssess the risk.
F ocus on staying regulated.
E ngage the person and your team.
R eview what happened afterward.
These five steps give you and your staff something they can remember under pressure. Participants learn how to recognize escalation early, communicate in ways that reduce tension, set clear limits and know when to bring in additional help. Helping staff influence the situation toward a safer outcome — for themselves, their coworkers, customers and the wider downtown community.
