Tuesday Night Talk: Bringing the Slocum Boot Shop Back to Brier Island

Discover how a group of volunteers recreated an authentic 1850s cobbler shop on Brier Island while preserving the remarkable legacy of Captain Joshua Slocum. Tonight's presentation shares the history of the Slocum Boot Shop, the work of the Joshua Slocum Society, and the community effort to collect artifacts, restore a historic space, and celebrate one of Canada's greatest maritime pioneers.

Kristina Inrig is President of the Joshua Slocum Society and a nonprofit executive with more than 20 years of experience in leadership, heritage initiatives, and community development. Since moving to Brier Island, she has led the creation of the Slocum Boot Shop, helped establish the Joshua Slocum Society, and worked with volunteers to preserve and share the history of Captain Joshua Slocum. She is also a playwright, author, and speaker with a passion for connecting communities through storytelling and local heritage.
