Nova Scotia is working with the Government of Canada to support workers and businesses affected by international tariffs. Programs and services are available to help businesses adapt, explore new markets and support workers through training and employment services.
The Government of Canada has announced a $1.5 billion expansion of the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) to support small and medium sized enterprises (SME) affected by tariffs, and will include additional support for liquidity needs in addition to the existing support for capital investment or business pivot projects.
- Eligible businesses could be provided non-repayable contributions up to a maximum of $3 million, for a combination of up to $1 million for an eligible investment project and up to $2 million for eligible liquidity support.
- To be eligible, SMEs must have been viable prior to the imposition of tariffs and have annual revenue of at least $1 million.
Details regarding the enhancement of the RTRI, including liquidity support measures designed to address pressures arising from tariffs, will be available on September 8, 2026.
