Jane's Walk Halifax is part of a worldwide movement of more than 200 cities hosting free, community-led walking tours inspired by urbanist, writer and activist Jane Jacobs.
Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) championed the voices of everyday people in neighborhood planning and city-building. She is the subject of the critically acclaimed 2017 documentary Citizen Jane and author of the classic Death and Life of Great American Cities.
That spirit continues in Halifax. Jane’s Walks bring people together to share stories, local knowledge, and the everyday details that shape a community. This festival is more than just a walk - it’s a forum for conversation, connection, and discovery. Whether you’re a longtime local or new to the city, Jane’s Walk offers a fresh perspective on Halifax’s streets, parks, and public spaces.
Topics ranging from history, nature, art, and lived experience, each walk is an opportunity to explore what makes a neighbourhood special, meet new people, and see the city from a new perspective.
