Grou Tyme Festival

The Conseil communautaire du Grand-Havre, in association with the Halifax Regional Municipality, is pleased to announce the return of the Grou Tyme Festival! The celebration will take place on Friday, August 16, 2024, on the Halifax waterfront.

In 2016, Maxim Cormier launched the Quinzou Festival in Halifax, a one-day festival aimed at celebrating National Acadian Day. Since then, the Conseil communautaire du Grand-Havre has cultivated a close collaboration with the Halifax Regional Municipality to bring the Acadian festival to life. In 2024, the festival changes its name to Grou Tyme, paying homage to the Acadian festival that existed in Halifax in the 2000s.

Program

12 p.m. to 1 p.m. – National Acadian Day ceremony, municipal proclamation, and performance by the group Hirondelles (Elyse Delaney, Michelle Deveau, and Nicole Deveau)

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Workshops on Acadian musical spoons and Acadian dance, face and nail painting in Acadian colors, outdoor games

3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – Performance by Hyppolite, the town crier

7 p.m. – The grand show hosted by Brooke Rivers featuring Hirondelles (N.S.), La Patente (N.B.), Vishtën Connexions (P.E.I.), and Lost Bayou Ramblers (Louisiana)

Spectators can also enjoy the Inside Out – Faces of the French-Speaking World exhibition, organized in partnership with Alliance française Halifax. The exhibition will feature large printed portraits showcasing members of the local community.
