Downtown Halifax Business Commission presents the ECMA Partner Stage Grant
The East Coast Music Awards: Festival and Conference (ECMA) are coming back to Downtown Halifax this spring to celebrate their 35th anniversary.
Taking place from May 3 – 7, 2023, this 5-day musical celebration showcases and recognizes the best of the East Coast music scene, and will attract thousands of artists, industry professionals, music fans, and more to the Downtown core of the city.
To help our members get involved with this exciting event, Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) has partnered with ECMA to provide a grant opportunity to the businesses and organizations in the Downtown area.
The East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) Partner Stage Grant will subsidize the cost for businesses to become an official 2023 ECMA Partner Stage AND hire an East Coast Music Association member to perform on their stage with a maximum grant of $500.00, excluding tax, per business.
The grant is available to businesses and organizations in Downtown Halifax that can fulfill the requirements of becoming a 2023 ECMA Partner Stage and have the resources and capacity to showcase a musical performance in their establishment that is open to the public during the timeframe of the 2023 ECMA (May 3 – 7, 2023).
Businesses/organizations MUST be a member of DHBC and located in DHBC’s catchment area to be eligible for this grant.
Downtown Halifax members that are interested in becoming an ECMA Partner Stage, can apply here. Once approved, businesses/organizations will be responsible for hiring an ECMA member/artist to perform in their space.

The deadline to apply to be an official 2023 ECMA Partner Stage is Friday, April 14,2023. DHBC will contact Downtown Halifax members as they are approved to confirm their eligibility for an ECMA Partner Stage Grant and review the terms and conditions of the grant with them.
Funds for ECMA Partner Stage Grant program are limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. The grant is not guaranteed for all the Downtown Halifax businesses and/or organizations that are approved to become a 2023 ECMA Partner Stage.

The ECMA Partner Stage Grant program is offering grants up to a maximum of $500.00, excluding tax, per business. Grants are a one-time-only grant to subsidize the cost to be an official partner stage and to host a musical performance during the 2023 East Coast Music Awards: Festival and Conference (ECMA) running from May 3 – 7, 2023.
To be eligible for the grant, businesses and/or organizations must be a member of Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC), located in DHBC’s catchment area, and have received an official 2023 ECMA Partner Stage designation from the East Coast Music Association.
The grant will subsidize the cost to pay for the 2023 ECMA Partner Stage designation and a musical act and/or performance. Businesses/organizations will be responsible for hiring their own musical act(s)/performer(s) and any equipment or other costs incurred because of their participation in the ECMA Partner Stage program.
The call to be a 2023 ECMA Partner Stage is now open (apply here). Deadline to apply for a Partner Stage is Friday, April 14, 203. The East Coast Music Association will notify DHBC when a Downtown Halifax member (business and/or organization in the Downtown Halifax area) has been approved to be a Partner Stage. DHBC will then contact that business and/or organization about the ECMA Partner Stage Grant and the terms and conditions to accept the grant. Grants funds are limited will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Downtown Halifax ECMA Partner Stages will not automatically receive an ECMA Partner Grant.
Once the ECMA are over (ends May 7, 2023), grant recipients must submit proof of payment for their 2023 ECMA Partner Stage designation and the musical artist/performance, and an invoice addressed to Downtown Halifax Business Commission for the amount (up to $500.00 excluding tax) to Kimberly Dossett, Director of Finance and Operations, DHBC, kimberly@downtownhalifax.ca. The final deadline to submit for reimbursement is Friday, July 14, 2023. DHBC will provide the funds to grant recipients once sufficient proof has been submitted. Reimbursements take approximately 30 days to be processed and will be mailed directly to the grant recipients in the form of a cheque.
If it is determined that amount of the grant awarded was not used, DHBC reserves the right to either deny payment to the grant recipient or pay an adjusted amount based on the valid receipts received.
Grants are provided at the discretion of Downtown Halifax Business Commission.
