Meet Mike Larisey, owner of Maritime Hobbies & Crafts Ltd, one of Downtown Halifax’s oldest stores.
Mike began working at Maritime Hobbies in 1967. At that time, the store was entering its 21st year in business and what started as a part-time gig turned into a full-time management position. When the original owners retired in the late eighties, Mike and his former business partner purchased the business. Mike, now 73, continues to dedicate his time and lend his expertise to this hobby and craft store, located at 1521 Grafton Street.
From jigsaw puzzles to model kits and fantasy games, this one-of-its-kind store features an eclectic mix of products. Maritime Hobbies attracts collectors and hobbyists from around the world looking for unique items. Browse their selection of train, ship, and car models, as well as popular sci-fi products like Gundam, Star Wars, and more via their brand-new online shop or visit them in-store Monday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm.
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Mike and his team are happy to make special orders as requested and offer store gift certificates – great for holiday gift-giving!
When Mike isn’t at the shop, he keeps busy creating custom stained-glass art, assembling model railroads, playing his guitar, and spending him with his family and friends. His creativity and enthusiasm extend far beyond his business, and we applaud him for his 40+ years of entrepreneurship.
