Meet Sophie Nadeau, Executive Director of Spontaneity Improv Company, Downtown Halifax’s only improv focused school and performance company!
Sophie has been a creative individual her entire life. She’s been involved in dance and musical theatre since she was a child, studied film at Nova Scotia Community College, and worked for Neptune Theatre for years before starting her own business. She wanted to create an environment where new and experienced performers could work on their skills and have opportunities to perform on-stage. That dream became a reality in September 2022, when Spontaneity Improv opened its’ doors at 1800 Argyle Street, inside the Light House Arts Centre.
Spontaneity Improv offers a variety of classes, including drop-ins every Monday from 7 – 9pm, as well as performance opportunities, day camps, parties, team building and school workshops. Currently, their classes are mainly 18+, however, Sophie intends to launch youth programs soon. Each month, their talented performance team puts on a monthly showcase, primarily at the Bus Stop Theatre. Sophie remains involved in community events, performing with a group of professional performers and instructors called “Third Bridge”. All showcases are open to the public and tickets are available through Spontaneity Improv or Eventbrite.
“What’s so great about improv is you're just playing pretend. You have the chance to portray any number of characters in different, fun situations” say Sophie.
