Downtown Spotlight: Board Room Game Cafe

Meet Kat and Brittney, the dynamic duo who have been with The Board Room Game Cafe since it opened in 2013.

Kat (on the left) grew up in Ontario and spent years working with a non-profit music festival after having obtained a degree in Fine Arts. She has always had an affinity for games, and she frequented Snakes and Lattes in Toronto before moving to Nova Scotia. Kat arrived in Halifax just in time to join the crew at the brand new Board Room Game Cafe and is currently the Retail Manager. She loves the way games bring people together and enjoys working in a space that never gets bored!

Brittney (on the right) is from Alberta and moved to Halifax to study paint and design at NSCAD University. She started as a part time employee just before Kat, and worked there while she lived out her dream of travelling the world. She now calls Halifax home and is the full-time Café Manager.

The café offers a selection of local beer, cider, mead, a full espresso bar, sandwiches, candy, and snack foods with gluten free and vegan options. The real draw to the Board Room Game Cafe, however, is the 600+ games that can be discovered, played, or purchased on-site. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for those 14 and under. This guarantees three hours of playtime and monthly “stay and play” passes are available as well. They host weekly and monthly events such as RPG night and themed trivia, all of which is kept up to date on their Instagram page. The café is drop-in and beginner friendly and there are “Game Bosses” to teach and recommend games every weekend.

The newest addition to the retail section is Chain Reaction Disc Golf Supply, Nova Scotia’s largest disc golf shop. From disc golf supplies to puzzles and party games, Kat loves helping people find their perfect products, and accepts preorders and custom orders. They also host private events in their back rooms for up to 30 people! Inquire at info@boardroomgames.ca or visit them in-store Monday 12pm – 5pm retail only, Tuesday – Sunday 12pm-12am, Friday and Saturday 12pm – 1am.
