Downtown Spotlight: Anemone Dining

Meet Chef Dany Duguay, head chef and owner of Anemone Dining, Halifax’s first fully private dining and event space.

Dany’s passion for culinary arts began at a young age in her grandmother’s kitchen in Ontario. She began working in the industry at age 14, studied Baking and Pastry Arts Management at George Brown College, and opened a cake business which she operated for years before moving to Halifax in 2013. She got acquainted with the Halifax market by managing local kitchens, pursuing private chef opportunities, and helped launch Harvest Clean Eats before opening Anemone Dining in 2022. The name, Anemone, is inspired by her grandmother’s flower gardens and her spirit of bringing people together.

What started as a boutique meal delivery and catering service has since evolved to offer events and services at their unique Downtown venue or at the location of your choice. The demand for small, private dining venues was as high as Dany’s desire to create a versatile space that now operates as Terra Cafe during they day, and a micro event venue at night. Located in the historic Halifax Brewery Market, the venue can host up to 40 guests with overflow into the market courtyard and steps away from the Halifax waterfront — perfect for weddings, boutique functions and curated dining experiences.

Chef Dany is fortunate to work alongside her partner, Stéphane Duval, who is an experienced bartender known for creating menus for some of the leading cocktail bars in the province.
