About the Event
You're invited to Dumpling Summit 2023, an International Folding of Wrappers.
To mark the launch of Season 4 of our Countless Journeys Podcast, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is thrilled to host the Dumpling Summit, a celebration of one of the world's most ubiquitous and ingenious wrapped foods, the dumpling.
Emceed by Nova Scotia-raised TV radio host, writer and producer Pay Chen, the Dumpling Summit will pay homage to dumplings from across the Asian continent, from the Middle East to Southeast Asia. The Dumpling Summit will spotlight the culinary and cultural importance of dumplings in the lives of its many makers and eaters.
Four dumpling representatives from immigrant Asian communities in Nova Scotia will be featured as panelists to describe the role of dumplings in their lives, their cultures and their communities: from the act of dumpling making and folding, its shapes and the ingredients that constitute the wrapper and its contents, to the rituals and practices surrounding eating them.
After the panel concludes, participants will be given the opportunity to sample dumplings made by our panelists, representative of their regions, illustrating the variety and diversity in Asian culinary traditions.
