About the Event

Renowned Mi’kmaq Artist Alan Syliboy Unveils a Powerful Blend of Past and Present in Upcoming Exhibition, From the Archives to the Easel, at The Prow Gallery
Halifax, NS — Critically acclaimed Indigenous Nova Scotian artist Alan Syliboy is set to present a compelling new exhibition that bridges decades of visual storytelling and artistic exploration. The show will feature a curated selection of Syliboy’s celebrated earlier works alongside a bold new series of paintings—offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the evolution of an iconic Mi’kmaq voice in Canadian art.
Syliboy, whose distinctive style draws deeply from Mi’kmaq petroglyph traditions, oral histories, and the rhythm of natural life, has long been recognized for his ability to channel ancestral knowledge through contemporary media. His upcoming collection reflects a continuum of spirit and tradition, exploring themes of identity, resilience, and renewal through colour, symbol, and motion.
The exhibition will be held at The Prow Gallery, 185-1479 Lower Water St., Bishop’s Landing, opening Thursday, August 7th and running through August 7-25, 2025 . A public reception will be held on opening night at The Prow Gallery with the artist in attendance.
