Job Posting: Digital Marketing Coordinator

Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) is looking to fill the role of Digital Marketing Coordinator. 

DHBC is the voice and resource for the businesses located in the central business district of Halifax, Nova Scotia. DHBC develops and executes programs, events, and marketing initiatives to make Downtown Halifax a better place to live, work, and play and to foster a place where businesses want to be. DHBC’s mission is to passionately pursue a more prosperous and vibrant Downtown Halifax.

DHBC represents businesses located in the area between the Halifax Waterfront and the waterside of Brunswick Street, and between the Cogswell Interchange and the south end of Barrington Street. There are approximately 1,600 businesses within the geographic area. By virtue of being in the Downtown district, these businesses are Members of DHBC. DHBC gives its membership a collective voice at the table on all major issues concerning Downtown Halifax.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Digital Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for managing and creating engaging content for social media and the website, analyzing digital marketing trends, and providing regular reports on social media and website performance. As a key member of the DHBC team, they will also support the development and execution of various initiatives designed to enhance membership engagement and drive marketing efforts.

DHBC values in-person collaboration and creativity, as well as the importance of Downtown as a vibrant place to work. For this reason, the majority of the work is done in-office. There is provision for some hybrid flexibility for all employees (typically 1 day a week).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Social Media management, including working with the Director of Marketing and other members of the DHBC team to manage the social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, LinkedIn and TikTok).
  • Plan, create (including but not limited to design, photography, and video editing), post, and monitor Social Media content that will engage DHBC members and the general public.
  • Website management including both the updating and creation of material on the website (downtownhalifax.ca) using CMS (Drupal). This includes adding events to the online event calendar, creating new content pages for Lowdowns and campaigns, updating advocacy information for members, etc. 
  • Analyze and prepare social media and website analytic reports.
  • Campaign Management including working with the Director of Marketing and/or other members of the DHBC team to inform and drive engagement and participation of both DHBC Members and/or the general public in campaigns.
  • Working with the Director of Marketing and other members of the DHBC team to liaise with DHBC Members and other stakeholders on various projects as needed. 
  • Work with the members of the DHBC Team on DHBC organized member and public facing special events/projects.
  • Attend Marketing Meetings with the Marketing Action Team and help facilitate minutes for the meetings, and the coordination and evaluation of Event Sponsorship Applications as part of DHBC’s Event Sponsorship Program.
  • Involved with the development of promotional materials as needed which could include planning, creating, and collection of material, editing, and working with graphic designer(s) on layout of material.
  • Work with other Business Improvement Districts/DHBC Partners/Stakeholders on various initiatives. 
  • Other duties could include assisting with the development and execution of marketing and communications initiatives and tasks as required including but not limited to, editing of promotional and marketing material, press releases, PSAs, media monitoring, and more as required by the DHBC team.

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Post Secondary Education in Public Relations/Communications or Marketing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office, CMS (Drupal), video editing and design software (i.e. Canva), Mailchimp Sprout, and Google Suite.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with moderate supervision.
  • Willingness in special events planning, marketing, social media, and advertising.
