Visitors are welcome to enter through the front or back entrances.
Commemorating World War II and the 80th Anniversary of D-Day is one of the top 5 things to do at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site in 2024.
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and partners present the history of Halifax throughout many time periods, including the World Wars. For one final year, the Halifax Citadel’s ‘Storm the Beach’ D-Day Exhibit welcomes visitors to re-trace the steps of the Canadian soldiers who stormed Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. It’s an immersive experience that brings this pivotal piece of history to life, complete with real sand and life-size defences – a must see in 2024! Visitors are invited to continue learning more about the impact of the World Wars inside the Fortress Halifax signature exhibit. Wartime Halifax is brought to life through historic photography and captivating artefacts. Also, not to be missed, the Army Museum’s newest WWII exhibit, ‘The Path to Victory’, opens later this summer. Showcasing and honouring Nova Scotian troops’ contributions to the D-Day events and to the liberation of Northwest Europe. Don’t miss the opportunity to commemorate the anniversary of this historic event, and with it, a momentous occasion to celebrate peace, liberty, and reconciliation.
