Developer, building owner, and property manager Starfish Properties is pleased to announce that their latest project is now complete. Starfish Properties partnered with Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) to install LED façade lighting on the G.M. Smith Building at 1717 Barrington Street through DHBC’s Gritty to Pretty Façade Lighting placemaking grant program. Gritty to Pretty grant projects contribute to DHBC’s strategic beautification goals.
“We’re so pleased with the result of the façade lighting at 1717 Barrington Street,” said Paul MacKinnon, Chief Executive Officer of Downtown Halifax Business Commission. “Subtle changes to the urban street-wall can make a big difference to the pedestrian experience.”
While complementing the heritage architecture and producing a unique warmth to Barrington Street, the other benefit of the new lighting is that it is also much more energy and cost-efficient. The flexibility in direction, colour, and intensity with the LED lights will cast their glow onto the building and add to the pedestrian experience as well as the vibrancy of Downtown Halifax.
The lighting system has the ability to change the colour scheme based on holidays, special awareness days, and certain requests to support causes and campaigns by local, surrounding businesses. The new lighting will not only enhance the Downtown urban experience for residents but will also add to the experience for the ever-growing number of tourists and visitors.
Starfish Properties would like to thank Downtown Halifax Business Commission for its contribution through the Gritty to Pretty program and their continued support over the years. Starfish would also like to thank Everlast Electric for the installation of the lighting.
