Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) and participating Downtown businesses are ready to celebrate Halloween a little earlier this year with "Haunt the Downtown." Instead of going door-to-door, locals and visitors are encouraged to visit Downtown Halifax and go store-to-store instead. On October 28, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm, the public is invited to dress up in their favorite costume and creep, float, or crawl their way through Downtown Halifax.
“We know Halloween is an exciting time for families,” says Paul MacKinnon, Executive Director of DHBC. “We think this would be the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy Downtown and explore all of our fantastic local businesses – and, of course, get some treats while they’re here.”
Participating businesses will be decorating their storefronts in spooky décor, holding in-store specials and giving out sweet treats to customers and guests. Some of the businesses taking part in this event are: 1274 Hollis Gallery, Argyle Fine Art, Carlton Cards (Scotia Square), Halifax Heritage House Hostel, Life SalonSpa, McDonalds (Scotia Square), Murphy’s The Cable Wharf, NSCAD, Subway, World Tea House, and Yu Yo Craft Supply. DHBC isn’t the only one celebrating Halloween early. Historic Properties is holding a “Safe Halloween” also on September 28. It will be a day filled with Halloween activities for the whole family with treats and tricks for visitors. For more information, visit Historic Properties’ Facebook event page.
