Celebrating 22 years of the program, Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) has launched a new name and look for its seasonal clean-up team. Formerly known as the Enviro Team, the Downtown Halifax Crew is now out on the street until the end of August. The Downtown Halifax Crew is a dedicated team of returning university students that keeps Downtown Halifax clean throughout the summer and provides tourist information to area visitors. The Crew members, easily identified by light blue T-shirts with question marks printed on the sleeves, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
“The Downtown Halifax Crew provides an important service to Downtown Halifax and the businesses,” said Paul MacKinnon, DHBC Executive Director. “Not only do they act as Downtown ambassadors in giving directions, providing a friendly welcome, and answering tourist questions – they maintain the cleanliness of the area to make sure we make a positive impression on those who visit.”
On Wednesday, June 6, Downtown Halifax will be filled with over 100 volunteers from local businesses sweeping the streets for the 24th Annual Clean Sweep. The event, presented by DHBC, has traditionally served as an official kick-off for DHBC’s Downtown Halifax Crew. Clean Sweep teams meet in Grand Parade before dispersing to clean up their designated areas of Downtown Halifax for one hour. The Downtown Halifax Crew then maintains the cleanliness of Downtown Halifax during the summer months.
