Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) is the voice and resource for the businesses located in the central business district of Halifax, Nova Scotia. DHBC develops and executes programs, events, and marketing initiatives to make Downtown Halifax a better place to live, work, and play and to foster a place where businesses want to be. DHBC’s mission is to passionately pursue a more prosperous and vibrant Downtown Halifax, through good development, Downtown mobility, membership services, DHBC leadership, and Downtown placemaking.

We are currently recruiting for a Placemaking Manager to join our team of dedicated professionals in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Placemaking Manager is responsible for the management and execution of placemaking programs, events, and initiatives of Downtown Halifax Business Commission. The Placemaking Manager is responsible for a variety of operational, events, research and administration responsibilities. As Placemaking Manager, you are a driven professional with passion for creating vibrant and inclusive public spaces with strong understanding of how such spaces impact the community.

As the ideal candidate, you are able to work independently within a collaborative team environment, you can think critically with ability to remain positive, solve problems, and seek clarification when necessary. Strong organizational, administrative, attention to detail and time management skills will be key to success in this role. With exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, you possess strong business acumen and are highly analytical by nature. You possess relevant experience in member relations and/or working with the public. Experience leading and supervising a team is essential. You demonstrate balanced ability to receive direction and show initiative. Post-secondary education, or related proven experience in urban planning, placemaking, and events, is required. This position requires flexible hours relating to events. The successful candidate must have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
