The mural, Rio Abajo Rio: The River Beneath the River, is a collaboration among building owner Navid Saberi, RAD Consulting, and muralist Jacoba Niepoort. Located at 1583 Hollis Street, the mural is designed to add something new, unexpected, and beautiful to the area.
The mural’s theme is creativity and the mural relates to the specific site, as well as the city’s surrounding water. It also plays with light and optical illusions meant to turn the eye of pedestrians passing by the wall.
The mural was funded by Downtown Halifax Business Commission's Gritty to Pretty placemaking grant.
Update: Congratulations to Jacoba for being including in @steeetart360's 'Top 100 Urban Art 2019 – Best artworks and streets artists of the year' (number 62).
