Insight Optometry's long love story with Downtown Halifax began 40 years ago. The practise originated in the Wallace Building on Granville Street. Over the years, they expanded twice and moved to their current location on Brunswick Street in the Cambridge Suites. With a seven-doctor team and over 30 employees, including six opticians, Insight continues to enjoy being part of our growing and vibrant community.
A Wide Range of Services
Insight Optometry offers a wide range of services including eye exams for all ages, routine and specialty contact lens fittings, and urgent care. They have specialized equipment for diagnosing and managing complex eye diseases, including their Dry Eye Clinic that is equipped with in-office screening and treatment devices.
Spot Eyewear gives clients the convenience of combining comprehensive eye examinations with one-stop shopping for eyewear from a growing list of top designers. Prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses are an essential component of a successful eye care plan; their highly trained licensed opticians work with clients to ensure the perfect fit every time.
The COVID-19 Pivot
Insight Optometry adapted quickly to the challenges imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The clinic now operates by appointment-only to properly follow Nova Scotia Health Authority guidelines. A staff member meets patients at the door to check them in and screen for COVID-19. Everyone inside the office is required to sanitize their hands and wear a mask upon entry. Patients are physically distanced, each in their own exam room or in their own station at Spot Eyewear. They will notice various clear partitions around the office, including at the reception desk, the opticians’ stations and on the doctors’ equipment.
Stringent cleaning protocol expands from the clinic to Spot Eyewear. To ensure appropriate social distancing, patients are asked to remain seated at their fitting station while their optician brings them a variety of eyeglasses to try on. Once the fitting is complete, every piece of eyewear touched by the optician and/or patient is then sanitized by the new Wabi UV sanitizer, which uses UV-C light to eliminate all reported strains of the Coronavirus.
New Online Store
Quickly after the shutdown in spring 2020, Insight Optometry opened an online store. Patients are able to order accessories, dry-eye products, solutions, supplements, gifts cards, and contact lenses online. Also, purchases can be shipped directly to homes or can be picked up using the curbside pick-up option. In addition, Insight partnered with the Canadian brand, Vision Avenue, to offer stylish, single-vision prescription eyeglasses.
Advice on Taking Care of Your Eyes
Insight Optometry’s advice is to never take your eyesight for granted. Much of eyecare is preventative and regularly scheduled comprehensive eye examinations do much more than check an eyeglass prescription. Many eye diseases show no symptoms in early stages, so it is important to schedule an appointment with your optometrist to assess the overall function and external and internal health of your eyes.
