The 9th Annual Carmichael Lecture
The 9th Annual Carmichael Lecture will be held Thursday, February 25, 6:00 pm, at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Keynote speaker Rod Cameron will talk about how a new convention centre can be a catalyst for downtown revitalization. Following the talk, a local panel of experts will discuss how opportunities can be maximized with the city and province. The Carmichael Lecture was created to honour DHBC’s former Executive Director, Kate Carmichael, and her passion for urban renewal. Invited lecturers speak on topics designed to inform and educate on key issues that create a thriving Downtown.


WDCL Launches Park After Dark
People out for an evening in Downtown Halifax will have another option for overnight parking this winter. Waterfront Development Corporation Limited (WDCL) is launching Park After Dark, offering a flat overnight rate of $6, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am at the four pay-and-display lots on Lower Water Street. The pilot project runs from January 22 to March 12. Colin MacLean, president and CEO of WDCL says this gives people another option while enjoying these areas in winter. Waterfront Winterfest February 26-28
Waterfront Winterfest, presented by the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited (WDCL), will bring a piece of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, snow sculpting, public skating, snowboarding and more to the Halifax Waterfront from February, 26-28, 10:00 am-10:00 pm. WDCL is also offering free weekend parking at all WDCL parking lots during the festival. Festival activities include: extreme snow sculpting at Bishop’s Landing, outdoor big screen with Olympic coverage, outdoor skating rink, snowboard showcase and live DJ, Canada Games mascots behind Waterfront Warehouse Restaurant; and free parking and indoor Playland at Halifax Marriott Harbourfront. Halifax for Haiti Benefit Concert
Brookes Diamond Productions is presenting Halifax for Haiti, a benefit concert with proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross to support their relief efforts in Haiti. The show will take place at the Metro Centre on February 8, at 7:30 pm, and will feature: Bruce Guthro, Charlie A’Court, Classified, Christina Martin, DRUM!, Joel Plaskett, Rhapsody Quintet, The Stanfields, Thom Swift, Dutch Robinson, NS Mass Choir, Anna Ludlow, Lennie Gallant, Scott MacMillan, Linda Carvery, Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, Old Man Luedecke, Rawlins Cross and more. Art Installation at City Hall
HRM City Hall, Cultural Affairs, and the Khyber Arts Society (KAS) invite you to view the art exhibit “And Still Counting” by Garry Neill Kennedy at City Hall.
