DHBC’s 16th Annual Clean Sweep

On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) will be hosting the 16th Annual Clean Sweep event. Clean Sweep is a lunch-hour event that encourages organizations to join together and help create a sparkling Downtown. Businesses are invited to submit a maximum of two teams consisting of four to six members each by contacting Lauren Martin at 423-2179 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Registration for 21 teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and must be submitted by Wednesday, May 27. There are only three spots left! DHBC’s Annual General Meeting: June 9

Please join the DHBC’s Board and Staff for their Annual General Meeting at G Lounge located at 1579 Grafton Street, starting at 4:00 pm. The AGM will include: DHBC’s activities of the past year; DHBC’s financial review, a review of DHBC 2010 Membership Survey. This is a great opportunity to network with other members of the Downtown business community. All Downtown Halifax business members are welcome. Hors d’œuvres and cocktails will be served. RBC Multicultural Festival

On July 2-4, the Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia presents the 26th Annual RBC Multicultural Festival, taking place in their new location on the Halifax Waterfront. Over the past 25 years, the Festival has attracted more than half a million visitors, and has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local economy. Culturally diverse activities include: music, international food, dance and art that embrace all socio-economic and demographic groups. For more information, visit www.multifest.ca.  

 

Pier 21 Exhibitions

Pier 21 presents their summer traveling exhibitions, Hungry Planet and Food for Health. From May 15 to September 6, discover international eating habits in Hungry Planet. While Food for Health helps answer questions many Canadians have about the role food plays in ensuring good health. Exhibit entrance is included in the price of museum admission. TOPS Convention

TAO The Adventure Outfitters has moved from their Chain Lake Drive location to their new location in Downtown Halifax at 5187 Salter Street. G Lounge has opened at 1579 Grafton Street and is owned by Costa Elles and Chris Tzanateas. The Lounge offers a relaxed but classy food and beverage experience.

 

Call For Discovery Awards Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for Discovery Centre’s 8th Annual Discovery Awards for Science and Technology. All nominations must be completed and received by the Discovery Centre by Monday, May 31, deadline. The event will take place November 25, at The Westin Nova Scotian. This is an opportunity to acknowledge and nominate talented colleagues and outstanding companies in Nova Scotia who have made a difference in the field of science and technology. Halifax Public Libraries Aid Small Business Startup

Halifax Public Libraries is presenting a Small Business Startup Service pilot project at the Sackville Public Library, Alderney Gate Public Library, Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library and Cole Harbour Public Library. They are introducing a pilot project to make their Business Startup service accessible to individuals at alternate locations. For more information, call Maureen Collier at 490-5710.

 

Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Awards

This marks the fifth year for the multidisciplinary award, which honours all forms of contemporary art. The main criteria for applying includes: having art piece publicly presented within the past five years, and the work must have a strong connection with Nova Scotia. All nominations must be completed and received by Friday, June 4, deadline, to be considered. The nomination form, along with more information is available at www.nsmasterworks.ca.

 

TD Halifax Jazz Festival

TD Halifax Jazz Festival is looking for assistance from the Downtown business community for their volunteer appreciation program. They are looking for discounts and donations, of gifts and prizes, from local businesses. The TD Halifax Jazz Festival runs from July 9-17, and is seeking support in helping to continue their thriving Volunteer Program.
