Q Smokehouse, a new BBQ restaurant, is now open at 1580 Argyle Street. Cafe Chianti (http://www.cafechianti.com) will soon be moving to 1241 Barrington Street. STRUT International Model & Talent Agency (http://www.strutmodelsandtalent.com) is now located on the 3rd floor of 1725 Barrington Street. Sensationally Yours (http://www.sensationallyyours.ca), an accessories and jewellery boutique, just opened at 1870 Albermarle Street. Starfish Properties’ development plans have recently been approved by the Design Review Committee for the former Sam The Record Man and Ginger’s Tavern buildings. The CD Plus building has been purchased by Churchill Steel & Timber. They also own the historic Marble Building, which houses Greco Pizza/Captain Sub and Lydon Lynch Architects. Former Halifax Herald building is being demolished to make way for Nova Centre, a convention centre with a hotel and Class A office space.

Meeting Planners International Petition
The local chapter of Meeting Planners International has started a petition to support the construction of a new convention centre, a key component to downtown revitalization. They plan to present the petition to the three levels of government on April 15 (National Meetings Industry Day). Demolition Notice: Former Halifax Herald Building
Dexter Construction Company Ltd. has been contracted to demolish the former Halifax Herald building on Argyle and Grafton Streets. Dexter will require some street closures in order to facilitate this work. Dexter expects the project will take until the end of April to complete. Please note that Dexter intends to allow pedestrian traffic to continue during these closures. The barricades will be signed and supervised during full street closures so that delivery vehicles and emergency vehicles will be allowed access. The goal is to complete this project with as little disruption as possible to traffic and the surrounding neighbours. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dexter Construction directly at 835-3381, or Andy Geldart, HRM, at 476-2243. The following are streets that will be affected: March 15-19 and March 22-26, daily closures on Grafton Street between Prince and Sackville; March 22-26, offset travel lane with periodic stop-go on Sackville Street between Argyle and Grafton; March 15-19, Argyle Street closure, local delivery only; and March 22-26, offset travel lane, no parking on both sides of Argyle Street between Prince and Sackville.
HRM Winter Parking Ban Lifted
The Overnight Winter Parking Ban in the urban core service area of Halifax Regional Municipality expired at midnight on March 8. The ban was lifted earlier than usual this year in recognition of the mild weather and the continuing mild forecast for the remainder of the week. During the ban HRM issued a total of 10,503 tickets between December 14 and March 7, earning $525,150. Motorists are reminded that Section 139 of the province’s Motor Vehicle Act provides that parked vehicles obstructing snow removal operations at any time throughout the year may be towed.
“Multicultural Paris / Paris la Métisse” at Pier 21
“Multicultural Paris / Paris la Métisse” underlines Parisian cultural diversity through contemporary black and white pictures. The critically acclaimed exhibition, which runs April 2- 21, aims at showing a humanist vision of the Parisian melting-pot through photographs representing life instants captured through the streets of the French capital. The exhibition was created by authors/photographers Florence Batarière and Morgan Haël Jypsian. A public opening reception will take place at Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Road, on April 14, at 5:30 pm.
