Proposal to Change Traffic Patterns in Downtown Halifax
HRM is considering significant changes to traffic patterns in Downtown Halifax, which currently has a mix of one-way and two-way traffic flow. HRM by Design proposed changes to traffic patterns to reduce the number of vehicle travel lanes with the goal of increasing street space available for on-street parking, bike lanes, and other potential uses. The plan involves a number of streets that currently have two-way flow being converted to one-ways. The specifics of the proposed plan, and the rationale for considering these changes, are included in an information sheet at http://www.halifax.ca/traffic/documents/DowntownTrafficPatternsInformationSheet.pdf. Before seeking input from the general public on these changes, HRM Transportation & Public Works would like to get feedback from the businesses in Downtown Halifax. There will be an open house, drop-in style information and feedback session for downtown businesses on April 8, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, at The Hub, 1673 Barrington Street, 2nd Floor. Light refreshments will be available. HRM Transportation & Public Works would also welcome comments by letter or email to: Dave McCusker, P.Eng., Manager, Strategic Transportation Planning Transportation & Public Works, tel: (902) 490-6696, email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), website: http://www.halifax.ca.

Demolition Notice: Former Halifax Herald Building
Dexter Construction Company Ltd. has been contracted to demolish the former Halifax Herald building on Argyle and Grafton Streets. Dexter will require some street closures in order to facilitate this work and expects the project will take until the end of April to complete. Dexter intends to allow pedestrian traffic to continue during these closures. The barricades will be signed and supervised during full street closures so that delivery vehicles and emergency vehicles will be allowed access. The goal is to complete this project with as little disruption as possible to traffic and the surrounding neighbours. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dexter Construction directly at 835-3381, or Andy Geldart, HRM, at 476-2243. The following streets will be affected during March 22-26: daily closures on Grafton Street between Prince and Sackville; offset travel lane with periodic stop-go on Sackville Street between Argyle and Grafton; and offset travel lane, no parking on both sides of Argyle Street between Prince and Sackville.
