The 9th Annual Carmichael Lecture
The 9th Annual Carmichael Lecture will be held Thursday, February 25, 6:00 pm, at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Admission is FREE on a first-come, first-served basis. Keynote speaker Rod Cameron will talk about how a new convention centre can be a catalyst for downtown revitalization. Following the talk, a panel will discuss how opportunities can be maximized with the city and province. The panel includes: Paul Kent of the Greater Halifax Partnership, Stephen Lund of Nova Scotia Business Inc. and Cheryl Stewart of FUSION Halifax. The Carmichael Lecture was created to honour DHBC’s former Executive Director, Kate Carmichael, and her passion for urban renewal. The Carmichael Lecture is sponsored by: Destination Halifax, Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Grafton Connor Group, Greater Halifax Partnership, Halifax International Airport Authority, Hotel Association of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Business Inc., Spring Garden Area Business Association and Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia.

Winterfest Overnight Adventure for Kids
Waterfront Development Corporation Limited presents Waterfront Winterfest, days of celebrating winter fun and activities on the Halifax waterfront from Feb 26-28. Waterfront Winterfest has something to offer everyone especially kids; kids will get the chance to spend the night in one of Canada’s premiere museums - the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The Sailor’s Olympics Nightwatch program is an overnight adventure where kids can explore Nova Scotia’s marine heritage in a unique and fun way. Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia
Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia will present the Built Heritage Awards on February 15, 3:00-5:00 pm, at Halifax City Hall, with a reception to follow. The two award recipients are: Dominion Public Building Tower Restoration Project at 1713 Bedford Row and the Gardiner’s Mill Dam Restoration Project at Gardiner’s Mill Lake, Yarmouth County. Heritage Trust would also like your support in raising $30,000 to help cover costs associated in moving and maintaining the Charles Morris Building until permanent arrangement can be made. Halifax Dance Fashion ‘n Motion
Halifax Dance presents Fashion ‘n Motion, a fashion show benefit presenting spring fashion for ladies, men and children from local merchants and designers on February 20, at the Lord Nelson Hotel. The benefit will feature a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting, silent and live auctions, plus performances from the members of companies-in-residence, the YOung COmpany, Halifax Dance ITP and recreational students. Argyle Fine Art’s Rated R for Romance
Argyle Fine Art is presenting the second chapter of Rated R for Romance fundraiser on February 28, 7:00-9:00 pm. Celebrities and distinguished members of the community will read hot and steamy passages from some of the best (and worst) romance novels. Throughout the evening, there will also be dance performances by Viva Flamenco! All proceeds from the evening will go directly to Adsum House, a vital safe-house for women and children. The host for Rated R for Romance again this year will be Eureka Love. Musical Chairs: Art You Can Sit On is a silent and live auction to benefit Symphony Nova Scotia.
