Results of Parking Meter Rate Survey
On April 15, DHBC, Spring Garden Road Business Association and Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission sent out a questionnaire to its memberships, via fax and email, to gather opinion on the proposed $0.50/hour parking meter increase. The results will be presented to HRM Council today, April 20. They are as follows: 85% of businesses disagreed with the $0.50/hour parking meter rate increase; 72% felt it will have a negative impact on their business; 53% would actually be supportive of a rate increase if the meter revenues were earmarked for a specific project that supported downtown; downtown streetscape projects were the most popular project to invest meter money into; and as an alternative to raising rates, only 26% felt charging on Saturdays was preferable with 70% disagreeing with this option.
