Businesses are invited to submit a maximum of two teams consisting of four to six members each by contacting Lauren Martin at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 423-2179. You can also download the PDF registration form here. Registration for 21 teams will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis and must be submitted by Wednesday, May 27.

“Clean Sweep is a chance to come together and contribute to the Downtown community,” said Paul MacKinnon, Executive Director of DHBC. “The volunteers have fun and make the heart of our city beautiful. It creates a welcoming and positive atmosphere in the Downtown area, which is carried throughout the summer by DHBC’s Enviro Team.” The event is the official kick-off for the Enviro Team, a group of students that maintain the cleanliness of Downtown Halifax and provide tourist information.

Registered teams will gather in Grand Parade and then disperse to clean their designated Downtown areas. After the cleanup, they will meet back in Grand Parade for lunch, awards and prize draws. Awards will be given out for team accomplishments including “Most Garbage Collected,” “Most Enthusiastic/Creative Team” and “Most Unique Garbage Item.” Prize donations for the event are welcome and appreciated.

Clean Sweep will take place on this year’s National Clean Air Day and will coincide with Canadian Environment Week (May 30-June 5, 2010).
